• My Identity

So for those of you who haven’t yet heard: OU had a data theft incident.

Someone hacked into an old alumni database system and managed to download… something. The database had information relating to over 300,000 individuals, including records of over 137,000 Social Security numbers. OU is contacting everyone who might be affected via email and snail mail to fill them in on the dastardly details.

But what if the University can’t even figure it out for itself? I got two emails today, both from the University. Here’s the crucial passages of each one, both sent originally to the old gdahlberg AT columbus DOT rr address; see if you tell why I’m all confused:

    EMAIL 1

The record associated with the e-mail address to which this message
was sent does contain a Social Security Number.

    EMAIL 2

The record associated with the e-mail address to which this message
was sent does not contain a Social Security Number.

    Which is it, OU?

  • WWDCD?

What would DahlbergCentral do, indeed. Let me first say that I haven’t read this guy’s posts, and even if I do, I am not the legal scholar that the elder DC blogger is and probably couldn’t say much about whether this ad agency has a good case or not. But still, it sounds like an egregious attack on this company, small-time peanuts blogger or not. It serves as (yet another) cautionary tale in this wild, wild west of the Internet.

  • Kicking Cousins

Nora met her cousin Kaydence this week.
Kaydence welcomed her to the blanket politely.

Then they started to kick playfully.

    Then Nora attacked!

    Mommy’s sweet little pink ninja!

Maybe it will be a while before we get them together again!

  • And Now, Snakes on a Plane:

    Genius.

More here; background for context. (And — META! — Jeremy‘s linked from that Wikipedia article! Worlds collide!)
